Abstract
This paper, the second in a short series, deals with the language and style of awards within the wider context of dispute resolution. It reviews past and current judicial and quasi-judicial practice and guidance.

Author's Biography
Anthony Kay has worked in private practice since 1982, and previously in the public sector. He became an FRICS in 1989, Fellow of the (now) CABE in 1993, FCIArb in 2000 and a FAE in 2004. He has acted as expert in several hundred litigation, mediation, adjudication and arbitration proceedings. His experience includes providing support in, and conducting, expert determinations, construction adjudications and arbitrations. He has an established practice, specialising in dispute resolution, including as a party wall surveyor.
