Developing a supply chain organisational structure to gain competitive advantage in today’s marketplace

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to apply change management principles as developed by Kübler-Ross and Kotter and combine them with Tuckman’s team development model to build a strategic proactive supply chain team. We will explore various tools, techniques and communication plans to form an organisational structure that supports early supply chain interaction in regard to design engineering and even as far up the chain as business capture. Supply chain, at its best, can help gain competitive advantage in terms of long-range planning and preparation. We need to be knowledgeable about ever-changing laws and regulations and develop strategic supply partners, while facing increased cost and schedule pressure to remain competitive in a global market.

Author's Biography

Laura Gloss graduated from Gannon University in 1992 with a BSc in business administration and completed her Master’s in business administration with a concentration on supply chain at Canisius College in 2007. She also holds an APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional certification obtained in 2008. Laura has been a practising supply chain professional for over 25 years, and has worked in both commercial and government sectors. Laura’s expertise is in government subcontracting and compliance, while building professional and agile supply chain teams. Her most recent position is Director of Supply Chain – Space and Defense Group at Moog Inc. in Elma, New York; in September 2019 she joined SRC Incorporated in Syracuse, New York as Director of Procurement. Laura has been a guest speaker at NASA Goddard Supply Chain Conference in 2018 and is scheduled to appear as a speaker in March 2020 at the CQSDI 2020 conference. Laura’s servant leadership style allows for full empowerment of her staff, while challenging them as professionals for their own personal development.
