Abstract
This paper focuses on the often overlooked process of packaging optimization which can deliver outstanding efficiency improvement for any business receiving or shipping products in corrugated boxes; this would include manufacturers, importers and distributors.

Author's Biography
Jack T. Ampuja is President of Supply Chain Optimizers. Prior to that, Jack had 30 years’ supply chain management experience with five Fortune 500 firms. His career has included stints in consulting, manufacturing and third-party logistics, and positions ranging from direct supervision of Teamsters and Longshoremen to Senior Vice President of Operations at a multi-billion dollar international distributor heading up a US$200m division with 800 employees. Jack has extensive knowledge of the food industry, having worked for 25 consecutive years for member firms of the Grocery Manufacturers Association. Jack writes articles for trade journals and is frequently interviewed as a subject matter expert in logistics efficiency; he has been involved with 40 articles in the past two years. He is a regular speaker on supply chain issues and trends, making over 50 hours of presentations annually to management groups. Jack has spoken all over the US and Canada as well as Argentina, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Netherlands, Sweden, UK and on behalf of the US Agency for International Development at the first-ever logistics conference held in Ghana, Africa. Since 2002 Jack has served at Niagara University as Executive in Residence and Director of the Center for Supply Chain Excellence; he has taught in university MBA programmes for over 25 years. In addition to Niagara University, Jack’s schools include Western New England College (Springfield, MA), Canisius College (Buffalo, NY) and University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he taught in their top-ranked online MBA programme. In 2016 Jack became the first adjunct at Niagara University to win an excellence in teaching award. Jack has a BS degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts, a year of postgraduate study in transportation at Northeastern University (Boston), and an MBA degree from the University of Connecticut. Jack lives in western New York in the town of Amherst; he is a US citizen but also has citizenship in Finland, where he was born, and Canada, where he received his public school education. Since 2010 Supply Chain Optimizers has been recognised by Food Logistics magazine six times as a Top 100 Technology and Solutions Provider and five times as Top Green Provider in the food sector. In 2017 Jack was recognised by LOGY — the Purchasing & Logistics Association of Finland in their listing of most influential supply chain executives.
