Abstract
Alumni affinity groups should not exist to perpetuate themselves for the group’s sake but to advocate, advance and support the organisation as a whole. This paper provides a brief overview of alumni affinity groups at universities and the role these groups play in strengthening the connection between the university and alumni. Four affinity group models are described and used to illustrate the current landscape of affinity programmes as a method of alumni engagement and how these groups have evolved over time. There is one ideal model that is recommended that shows a balance and shared vision between the affinity group and the university.
