Abstract
This paper describes the Rutgers University Foundation’s efforts to expand its holistic reporting to top donors (principal gift level) by establishing a milestone recognition system called Scarlet Influence. The paper discusses the reasoning behind selecting milestones as a key for creating holistic reports, the means by which milestones for individual donors were defined, how priority personal milestones were identified with the assistance of front-line fundraisers and then used for the creation of tailored reports, what the reports ultimately entailed, and other options for recognising milestones.

Author's Biography
Roberta O’Hara is the Associate Vice President for Donor Relations at Rutgers University Foundation, where she oversees a team of 16 stewardship, recognition, event and acknowledgment professionals. Prior to Rutgers, Roberta held the position of senior associate director of stewardship at Princeton University. For the Association of Donor Relations Professionals (ADRP), Roberta was inaugural treasurer for two terms, Best Practices in Donor Relations Committee chair for ADRP and the Association of Advancement Services Professionals, content chair for the 2014 International Conference, conference chair for the 2015 International Conference, and most recently Research Committee chair for the joint project on donor relations literature with Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. Roberta presents frequently on donor relations and stewardship at conferences and publishes in the field, most recently in the Journal of Donor Relations and Stewardship: Book 2, Measurement. Roberta has been recognised with the 2014 CASE Circle of Excellence Bronze Award, the 2015 Gold and Silver Awards for donor recognition pieces, and the 2015 CASE Quarter Century Service Award. Roberta holds a BA in psychology and English from Rutgers University, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa and rowed on Women’s Crew, and an MA in English literature from Northeastern University.
