Abstract
This paper provides a look into a collaborative approach to parent philanthropy in higher education, using guidance and examples from experienced parent programmes and fundraising professionals. Parents of students enrolled at institutions of higher learning are a new and high capacity population who can make a great philanthropic impact in higher education. The paper discusses aspects of both parent programming and parent fundraising that must be implemented in order to successfully engage parents in institutional philanthropy.

Author's Biography
Colton Withers is the former Director of Development for Student Life and Parent & Family Giving at the Purdue Research Foundation. In this role, he was responsible for major gift fundraising for the Office of the Vice Provost for Student Life at Purdue University. He also served as the director of the US$30m parent-and-family affiliation-based component of the US$2.019bn Ever True campaign. He is a graduate of Purdue University and currently enrolled in the executive master’s programme at the Lilly School of Philanthropy at Indiana University. Colton now serves Purdue University as the associate director of Purdue Musical Organizations, a position that encompasses fundraising and external relations for Purdue’s vocal music department.
Kelley Stier is the Inaugural Director of Parent & Family Connections and an associate dean of students at Purdue University and is responsible for assessing and addressing parent and family needs for communications, interests and services and to develop resources and opportunities for engagement that meet those needs. Prior to her current role, she served in roles within university housing, student activities and academic student services, totaling 11 years of higher education administration experience. She is a two-time graduate of Bradley University, earning her bachelors of science in communications and her master of arts in human service administration.
