Abstract
The areas influenced by digital asset management (DAM) governance are many, with the most critical being the creation and nurturing of human relationships. DAM is a powerful force multiplier for the digital supply chain, but the technology aspects should not overshadow the needs, daily contributions and work being done by people. This paper discusses such aspects of governance as educating executive leadership about the ongoing nature of DAM, ‘using people as glue’ to hold failing processes together, making the case for DAM librarians, why metadata are not applied to assets and how to address this, replacing fear of change with curiosity, maintaining an active DAM community, making people’s jobs easier, the importance of automation and long-term planning mindsets for DAM success.
