Abstract
For airports, the threat of a terrorist attack is ever-present. In the past few years, a number of terrorist acts against airports have taken place both within and outside the European Union — in Moscow in 2011, Glasgow in 2007 and Rome in 1985. The aims have varied, but such acts inflict injury, create fear and cause major damage to infrastructure. This paper explores the systematic planning that every airport security director needs to undertake to prevent terrorist acts in the public setting for which they are responsible.
