Invite colleaguesImpact of collaborative decision-making mechanisms on operational efficiency of congested airports
Abstract
Many capacity constrained airports face delay and congestion problems. As airport capacity cannot be easily expanded, mechanisms that optimise an airport's operational efficiency are sought. Airport collaborative decision making (ACDM) systems, such as those implemented in the USA and those currently being developed in Europe, can enhance the efficiency of aircraft operations by improving collaboration and information sharing between stakeholders. In this paper, the capability of ACDM to effectively mitigate airport delays and congestion is assessed, considering Heraklion International Airport as a case study. Computer simulations over a set of three Greek airports demonstrate the positive impact of ACDM on the airports' efficiency.
