Abstract
Shell is one of the world’s major oil companies and holds a large corporate portfolio of offices, accommodation and residential assets. An extensive portfolio requires daily decision making that is of great impact to the company’s operations. To make good and fast decisions, clear insights from accurate data are essential. This paper describes Royal Dutch Shell’s (RDS) journey to achieving this, and provides two examples where improved data and management reporting supported better decisions.

Author's Biography
Jaco Van Noppen joined Shell in 2013 as an experienced hire from the banking industry. He leads the Global Operational Excellence capability for Shell Real Estate, Business Operations and Corporate Travel. As custodian of the integrated RE operating model, he is charged with driving efficiency, effectiveness and continuous improvement of RE’s operating performance in the RE leadership team. Before his role at Shell Real Estate, Jaco was head of Corporate Real Estate at ABN AMRO Bank and Fortis Bank. Jaco studied architecture and construction and also graduated from Erasmus University, Rotterdam with an MSc in business administration with majors in strategic management. He has MBAs from IMD Geneva and INSEAD Fontainebleau.
