Abstract
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will come into effect in May 2018 and it will afford the industry more clarity about the companies' obligations to adopt appropriate organisational and technical measures in order to ensure the security of personal data. The objective of this paper is to give a clearer picture of the specific measures that controllers as well as processors may have to adopt under the new law.

Author's Biography
Alexander Dittel is a solicitor at a city law firm who specialises in contentious and non-contentious data protection work, cyber security and commercial law. His previous in-house experience ranged from a tech start-up to global companies, including Google, Amazon and Pfizer. Currently, Alexander covers a spread of sectors including advertising, marketing, healthcare, retail and leisure, financial services and technology, media and telecommunications.
