Abstract
Although global air traffic demand has slowed as a result of the current global recession, numerous projections show the beginning of a gradual recovery in the air transportation industry. In anticipation of increased demand, civil aviation authorities are working to improve their ability to meet capacity and demand expectations. Many nations are either planning or are beginning to implement methods to increase service delivery while reducing user and service provider costs. To justify the financial commitments for changes that enable system transformation, stakeholders need assurances that modernisation efforts will provide not only local, but global, benefits and seamless flight operations.
