Abstract
In 2017, the Texas State University Development Foundation board of trustees approved an ambitious plan to significantly change its relationship to the university and invest in the fundraising capacity of the university. The engagement of the board in the strategic vision of the university led the board to initiate a strategic planning effort to align the foundation’s resources in support of university goals. This paper details the process that led to and facilitated that change.

Author's Biography
Daniel Perry currently serves as Assistant Vice President, University Advancement at Texas State University. In this role, he manages strategic planning for the University Advancement division and is responsible for departments providing operational and outreach support for university fundraising.
Barbara Breier joined Texas State University as the Vice President for University Advancement and Executive Director of Texas State Development Foundation in 2011. Dr Breier has more than 25 years’ executive leadership experience with non-profit organisations and universities.
