Abstract
In early 2016 HOK was asked a simple question by the UK Chapter of CoreNet: ‘Will coworking impact corporate real estate, and if so how?’ That question lead to a deep dive into coworking and the October 2016 release of the white paper ‘Coworking: A Corporate Real Estate Perspective’. The conclusion of the paper addressed the question at hand but also looked at what might lie ahead for the industry.

Author's Biography
Kay Sargent ASID, IIDA, CID, LEED AP, MCR/w, WELL AP, Senior Principal|Director of WorkPlace, HOK. Over the course of more than 30 years of experience Kay’s work has taken her to multiple continents where she has worked with companies on their global real estate strategies and designed workplaces of the future. Kay was recently elected to serve on the International Federation of Interior Designers /Architects and serves on the CoreNet Global Board. She has also served on the International Boards of IIDA, ASID, NCQLP and NCIDQ. Kay is a co-founder of the IFMA Workplace Evoluntionaries, WE community, and a Founding member of the DC Chapter of Upward.
Julia Cooper is a workplace strategist with over ten years of strategic planning experience and 25 years of design experience. As the regional leader of consulting for HOK’s San Francisco office, Julia has developed a variety of workplace typologies and design solutions for a range of client types in locations across the USA and overseas.
Beate Mellwig LEED AP, is a vice president and regional leader for HOK’s interiors practice in London. Beate, who has more than 25 years of interior design experience, has led the delivery of many high-profile projects worldwide.
Margaret Mcdonald LEED AP, is a principal in HOK’s St. Louis office with more than 20 years of experience working as a design professional. Margaret specialises in developing workplace design strategies that enhance performance, health and wellness and has done so for both corporate clients and coworking operators.
