Abstract
Each year, alumni offices invest precious time and resources in incentives, contests and prizes aimed at engaging alumni. In an era of information saturation how can advancement professionals make the most of these investments? This was the challenge faced by the newly-formed Alumni Association of the New Brunswick Community College (NBCC). NBCC had a new alumni association, a non-committed alumni base, dated information and a need to get alumni to provide updated contact information. Learn how NBCC developed and launched a successful ‘spring cleaning campaign’ to encourage alumni to update their information.

Author's Biography
Tom Meadus is Director of Advancement at New Brunswick Community College (NBCC). Tom joined NBCC in 2010 after 15 years in the private sector. In 2012, he was assigned the task of building NBCC’s first ever advancement department. NBCC had no organised fundraising capability and no alumni association, despite being 40 years old. The department has quickly grown and is now responsible for alumni relations and a new alumni association, donor development and fundraising as well as entrepreneurship. After only three years, NBCC’s advancement department, under Tom’s leadership, has received national and international recognition for their work. Like NBCC, Tom is new to advancement, but is truly passionate about the profession, which shows in NBCC’s impressive results.
Heather Allaby is Community and Government Relations Advisor at New Brunswick Community College (NBCC). Heather has helped public and non-profit organisations shape their strategies and narratives for nearly 20 years. She joined New Brunswick Community College in 2013 as its first Community and Government Relations Advisor. Today, she leads the team responsible for the college’s public and media relations, community engagement, government and stakeholder advocacy and internal communications, as well as the award-winning Robertson Institute for Community Leadership, NBCC’s signature learning experience. She works closely with senior leadership and the Board of Governors to support the governance, stakeholder engagement and performance measurement of NBCC.
