Black holes and revelations: DAM and museum collections

Abstract

Formally established in 1937, the National Maritime Museum is the world’s largest source of historical maritime images. Its varied collection covers themes such as trade and empire, navigation, war and astronomy. In this paper, the author focuses on DAM development within the museum’s Picture Library, telling the story of the past five years and looking ahead to future challenges. The author shares his experiences with DAM in a cultural heritage organisation and in a commercial context.
