Abstract
Since the introduction of the Home Report, surveyors face a new world. The profession has had to adapt many of its long established inspecting and reporting practices to accommodate the requirement to categorise residential building defects for the Home Report's Single Survey element. Although surveyors must be more commercially aware when preparing a Home Report, such awareness cannot compromise professional standards. This paper discusses the challenges being faced, and how these can be addressed to comply with the expectations of the vendor and purchaser alike.
