Abstract
The success of a transaction depends on the way in which the post-acquisition integration takes place. This paper discusses relevant factors for the successful acquisition of shares in an airport. Any acquisition requires a knowledge-based approach combined with good preparation, thorough understanding of the challenges and opportunities ahead and open communication. As a result, these factors also contribute to the positive integration and development of the airport. The aspects that have to be considered and the mechanisms that have to be in place to ensure a smooth transition are pointed out.

Author's Biography
Holger Linkweiler is Managing Director of AviAlliance. As cofounder of the company, Holger assumed responsibility for the company’s business planning and financing activities. He also managed the acquisitions of the stakes in the airports in Sydney and Budapest and the founding of AviAlliance Capital. Within AviAlliance, he oversees mergers and acquisitions, investments and financing and the operational department of aviation, technical services as well as the legal department. Furthermore, he heads the asset management of the airports in Athens and San Juan (Puerto Rico). Holger is vice chairman of the board of directors of Athens International Airport S.A., member of the supervisory board at Flughafen Düsseldorf GmbH and member of the operating board of Aerostar Airport Holdings, LLC (San Juan Airport).
