Invite colleaguesOur ambition is high: Running the most climate-smart airport in the world
Abstract
The aviation industry is facing the challenge of meeting strong passenger growth while also continuing to reduce its climate-impacting emissions. The industry is at the critical junction between sustainability and growth, where the success of each in the long term is determined by the other. As the state-owned operator of Sweden’s national basic infrastructure of airports, Swedavia’s ambition is to develop and operate the most climate-smart group of airports in the world, with zero emissions from Swedavia’s own operations by 2020. This paper is on the one hand outlining the basic road map to Swedavia’s fossil freedom. On the other hand, it describes the importance of airport operators contributing to the sustainable development of the aviation industry as a whole, not least in the large-scale introduction of biojet, where leadership and cooperation all through the industry’s value chain is of the essence in order for the aviation industry to develop sustainably.
