Abstract
At Mayo Clinic, philanthropic support has become increasingly important in the advancement of the top priorities in the three mission-centric areas of practice, research and education. A team of development professionals is responsible for meeting ever-increasing fundraising goals, while keeping the cost per dollar raised among the best in the industry. To do this, it is vitally important to run efficient and effective events that facilitate relationships between Mayo Clinic and current and prospective benefactors. This paper captures the process by which the Department of Development set out to evaluate their events using long-term metrics, analyse the resulting data and recommend necessary changes. Readers will be challenged to consider how they measure the success of their development events and left with ideas on new metrics that might be applicable in their institutions.
