Abstract
Based on excerpts from Governance Reimagined: Organizational Design, Risk and Value Creation, to be published by John Wiley & Sons, May 2012, the author explores the relationship between value and the pursuit of values with a specific focus on the role that resiliency plays in our ability to be successful in creating value. Psychological influences such as loss avoidance are greatly underappreciated and forms of corporate governance like network governance can play an important role in minimising the impact of these factors, along with enhancing the ability of organisations to create value.

Author's Biography
David R. Koenig is the Chief Executive Officer of The Governance Fund Advisors, LLC and Chief Investment Officer of Ram Investment Advisors, LLC. His current work is to discover hidden value in publicly traded companies based on their corporate governance. In 2010, he was chosen as a winner of the inaugural Management Innovation eXchange’s M-Prize competition — Reinventing Leadership — for his idea: ‘Risk Capital as Commons — Distributive and Networked Governance’. In 2008, he was chosen as the recipient of Professional Risk Managers’ International Association’s (PRMIA) top honour, the Higher Standard Award, and in 2007, he was named by his industry peers as one of the first 100 members of the Risk Who’s Who international honorary society. His past accountabilities include the management of complex multibillion-dollar portfolios, development and oversight of corporate-wide risk management programmes, executive officer and board fiduciary duties. David served as the chair of the Board of Directors of PRMIA from 2002–2005 and currently serves as the chair of the Ethics Committee for that organisation.
