Abstract
Building and opening a new runway is a complex task with careful consideration of many different components essential to its successful delivery in a timely and cost-effective manner. Brisbane Airport Corporation Pty Ltd (BAC) is in the final stages of delivering its new parallel runway (NPR) and can attribute the achievements of the project to date to detailed planning, extensive stakeholder engagement, careful attention to project co-ordination and strong client involvement in engineering design and construction.

Author's Biography
Krishan Tangri is an industry recognised executive leader with more than 25 years’ experience in infrastructure, facilities and construction management with some of Australia’s most recognised private and public organisations. In 2015, he was a finalist for CEO Magazine’s Construction Executive of the Year. Krishan’s early training as a civil engineer saw him move through a series of technical positions into business leadership, joining Sydney Airport Corporation in 1996. As Manager, Airport Facilities, Krishan defined and executed a progressive strategy for the organisation’s AUS$5bn+ aeronautical asset portfolio and over a three-year tenure maintained service levels while reducing resources and costs. Promoted in 2005 to lead an AUS$800m suite of aeronautical capacity, improvement and compliance projects, Krishan left a legacy of excellent project delivery, governance and risk management. During his role as Manager, Capital Works he delivered both the T1 Departures Reconfiguration and Runway Safety Extension projects to timeframe and budget specifications. Since 2010, Krishan has provided strategic foresight to Brisbane Airport Corporation as General Manager of the Assets Group, overseeing multibillion-dollar asset, infrastructure and construction portfolios. Having led and embedded a cultural shift, Krishan now leads a commercially-oriented, highly qualified and efficient business unit, which is on track to deliver the AUS$1.3bn New Parallel Runway Project 10 per cent under budget. Krishan is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) and holds an MBA with a finance major from Deakin University. A qualified civil engineer, Krishan also holds a masters in construction management from the University of New South Wales.
