Leveraging an enterprise medication management strategy for clinical, financial, and operational success
Abstract
Medication management across the care continuum is a strategic imperative for health systems seeking to improve patient safety, clinical outcomes, financial sustainability and operational efficiency. This paper outlines Ochsner Health’s enterprisewide medication management (EMM) strategy, emphasising governance, multidisciplinary collaboration and advanced technology integration as the major drivers of standardised practices across its multistate network. Through system-wide implementation, Ochsner demonstrates that even large, complex health systems can achieve high reliability, safety and efficiency by fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation. The measurable outcomes of this approach underscore the value of a unified EMM model in driving sustainable improvements in healthcare delivery.
