How digital transformation can improve hospital operations and patient flow
Abstract
This paper outlines Bronson Healthcare’s digital transformation journey to improve System Capacity Management (SCM) and patient throughput. The organisation details the strategic implementation of SCM initiatives to address persistent challenges such as overcrowding, lack of transparency and fragmented workflows. Its major interventions included the launch of a centralised Capacity Command Centre, integration of real-time data tools, standardised interdisciplinary discharge rounds and unit-level huddle dashboards. Thus, Bronson achieved measurable improvements in discharge efficiency, patient flow and operational alignment. The paper examines governance models, communication strategies and cultural shifts that supported sustainable improvements and positioned the organisation for ongoing innovation. This case study offers operational best practices for healthcare systems seeking to leverage digital platforms to optimise hospital operations and enhance care delivery.
