Abstract
This paper introduces Blockchain as a technology family more aptly designated as shared ledger technology. It describes generic fields of application such as agency problems. Then specific areas of application in real estate such as financial transactions and asset management are described. Finally experiences from projects in which the author participated are discussed.

Author's Biography
Georg Koester leads the engineering team of the Line-of-Business Real Estate at SAP. He holds a Master’s degree in software engineering from the Hasso Plattner Institute at the University of Potsdam and studied at universities in Beijing, Paris and Stanford. Before taking up his current role, he coordinated machine learning and Blockchain innovation cases for SAP LoB Finance. He is also a frequent speaker at conferences.
