Abstract
This paper explores the development and implementation of a comprehensive social media content calendar. A cohesive, organised and collaborative calendar will save social media managers time and energy while ensuring a well-balanced content mix, increasing collaboration and supporting institutional goals and communication efforts. This paper will guide readers through the benefits of using a calendar, examine the various features and elements of a calendar and discuss practical steps to begin using a calendar as part of their institution’s social media content workflow. Carrie Mills is the Social Media Manager at University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UT), and works in the Office of Communications and Marketing. With over 15 years of experience in entrepreneurship, marketing and communications in both the non-profit sector and higher education, Carrie brings a well-rounded, relationship-driven approach to the strategy and management of the university’s flagship social media accounts. Carrie holds an MS degree in strategic and digital communication from UT and a BA degree in advertising and public relations from Carson-Newman University.
