The Biomedical & Life Sciences Collection
New Releases for April
This month’s release to The Biomedical & Life Sciences Collection features talks on the vitamins and minerals your body needs, clinical trials, rotavirus vaccines, the one health framework and more.
Included in the series Periodic Reports: Advances in Clinical Interventions and Research Platforms is the talk ‘Harnessing the immune system for cancer therapy’ by Dr. Raghav Sundar, National University Cancer Institute, Singapore, which explores major paradigm shifts that have occurred in oncology over the past decade. Dr. Sundar reviews the evolution of treatment from chemotherapy and targeted therapies to the advent of immunotherapy, which has revolutionised cancer care by reactivating the immune system to attack tumours. Dr. Sundar also reviews the growing role of multimodal approaches such as total neoadjuvant therapy, as less invasive alternatives to radical surgery. He aims to shift the belief that stage four cancer is terminal, emphasising its increasing management as a chronic disease thanks to advances in targeted therapies and immunotherapy.
Also taking place later this month is the next event in our live webinar series, on the topic of ‘Phasing out animal testing: A new era for pharmaceutical innovation’. The webinar will be presented by Dr. Kirsty Reid, Director of Science Policy at the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) and will provide an overview of the EU’s evolving policies on the use of animals for scientific purposes, focusing on the pharmaceutical sector. Dr. Reid will discuss ongoing activities to include the 3Rs into ICH guidelines, and various partnerships and projects across stakeholders to eliminate redundant tests or to streamline testing requirements. This free event will take place on Tuesday 22nd April 2025 at 5pm BST / 12pm EDT / 9am PDT, register to attend here.
