and we will discuss today
intersects conditions
or disorders of
sex development so this
is the talk outline.

I will start by a
brief introduction on
the biological and
sociological concepts
of sex and gender.
To then address the
biological aspects of
fetal sex differentiation
and devote most of
the talk to intersex
conditions or disorders of
sex development
that some authors
like to call differences
of sex development.

Sex refers to the biological
aspects of an individuals,
for example ovaries are the
female gonads while testes,
are the male gonads,
estrogens are predominantly
female hormones,
whereas androgens are
predominantly male hormones.
Whereas gender as a more
psycho-social meaning and
refers to the self-perception of
an individual as a
male or a female,
non-binary or other
possibilities,
and also to the
perception of others.
That is the gender role in
society so when we talk
about sex and gender,

we can address it from
different aspects.
The genetic aspect, that is
the chromosomal and genetic sex
that will influence
the anatomic and
physiological aspects.
That is the gonadal
sex, genital sex,
and also the sex of
other organs that are
not as dimorphic as the
gonads or the genitalia,
but shows some
differences between
sexes and then the
cycle social aspects,
that is the legal gender
or sex assignment.
The gender of rearing,
gender role behavior
or expression,
gender identity and
sexual orientation.
I will not refer to the
psychosocial aspects,
but we'll concentrate
on the genetic aspects
and anatomic and physiological
aspects of sex in
this talk so when referring to
