A milestone in modern cell biology is the realisation that membrane-bound organelles in eukaryotic cells do not function as isolated entities but form a complex, integrated network within the cell to coordinate metabolic cooperation and communication to sustain life. This interplay involves the formation of inter-organelle membrane contact sites, which bring organelles in close apposition, facilitating metabolite transfer, biogenesis, signalling, and positioning.

Defects in organelle function and interplay have been linked to human disorders, which are often severe including metabolic and developmental defects, organ dysfunction and neurological abnormalities.

This series of mini-talks on intracellular organelles is primarily designed for undergraduate students in biology, biochemistry and biomedicine to provide an overview of key organelles, general principles in organelle biology, and their fundamental functions in maintaining cellular homeostasis and eukaryotic life as we know it today.
