Biography

Nick Butler is Visiting Professor and founding chair of the Policy Institute at Kings College London. He was previously Group Vice President for Strategy and Policy Development at BP plc, and subsequently Senior Policy Adviser to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. He is an energy economist specialising in the economic... read moreand political aspects of the transition to a lower carbon world. He serves as energy policy adviser at the Cavendish Laboratory in Cambridge and at the Faraday Institution - the entity established by the UK Government to develop energy storage technology including batteries. He is a Vice President of the Hay on Wye Literary Festival. In addition to energy issues his interests include international relations, the future of higher education and European issues. He writes for the Financial Times, the Nikkei Asian Review and Prospect magazine.
