Vassiliki Betty Smocovitis is Professor of the History of Science in the Departments of Biology and History at the University of Florida. She has a longstanding interest in the history of modern evolutionary biology. She received her PhD from Cornell University in ecology and evolutionary biology, and in the history... read moreand philosophy of science and technology. She is the author of Unifying Biology: The Evolutionary Synthesis and Evolutionary Biology (Princeton University Press: 1996), other edited collections, and has published in both scientific journals such as Evolution, American Naturalist, Science, Genetics and the Botanical Society of America, as well as historical and philosophical journals. She has been the recipient of grants, honours, and awards including UF Distinguished Alumni Professor, Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar, and the 2012 Hazen Education Prize from the History of Science Society. In 2000, she was elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
