Biography

Dr. Robert Zucker has been Professor of Neurobiology in the Molecular and Cell Biology Department and the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute of the University of California, Berkeley since 1974. He was trained in physics at MIT and neurological sciences under Donald Kennedy at Stanford University, and worked as a postdoctoral... read morefellow in the laboratory of Bernard Katz at University College London and the laboratory of Lladislav Tauc at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in Gif-sur-Yvette, France. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in neurobiology, heads an NIH- and NSF-funded research laboratory focused on mechanisms of transmitter release and presynaptic plasticity, as well as other roles for calcium in regulating neural and non-neural activities, and has served on numerous journal editorial boards as well as government and foundation scientific review panels.
