Interviewer: Today I'm interviewing Mr. Barry Libert, CEO of AIMatters, on two articles on which he's either the author, 'How to Win at the Platform Game', published in MIT Sloan Management Review on 23rd of June, 2021, or joint author with Megan Beck, 'A Platform Strategy Won't Work Unless You're Good at Machine Learning', published on 14th of May, 2018 in Harvard Business Review. I should be delving into the trinity of components that comprise the platform mode of business and the claimed importance of machine learning and AI. Listeners were expected to have read both articles before listening to the interview. This is a second occasion on which I've interviewed Mr. Libert for the Business and Management Collection. So I feel safe in adopting first names. Berry, thank you for taking this interview. Before we get to asking what you see as the implications of your analysis, may I start with this? You're a very busy businessman. Why did you do take the time to write these articles? Who's your target reader and do you know if you achieved what you wanted to achieve? Mr. Libert: Great questions. My reason for doing this is because most investors and executives have asked me for the 30 or 40 years I've been doing this work, what constitutes the best business model regardless of the industry in which I operate?
