Interviewer: Today I'm interviewing Professor Anne Sibert, Professor of Economics at Birkbeck, University of London, on cryptocurrencies. Questions. 1. Why they have the potential to cause problems for national currencies? 2. What are those potential problems? 3. To what extent should governments or regulators seek to prevent those problems arising, or at least getting out of hand? 4. If they do decide to act, what actions should they take? Professor Sibert, thank you for taking the time for this interview. May I ask you to quickly cover the first two questions and then address the all important matter of what, if anything, governments and regulators should do? Professor Sibert. Prof. Sibert: I'm going to start by addressing the question of what are the potential perceived problems for our national currencies, or more generally, the national governments from cryptocurrencies?
