Building Information Modelling (BIM) for refurbishment
The advent of building information modelling, technological advances and the need to save both cost and carbon are drivers for change in the AEC industry. How can we leverage collaborative working, simple visualisation techniques and surveying tools to give our companies a competitive advantage or at least start to make us question long held workflows.

Nick Blenkarn is a chartered geomatics surveyor with a Master’s degree from University College London and 26 years’ experience in surveying. Involved with reality capture via 3D laser scanning from 2004, Nick has managed a variety of survey projects such as King’s Cross station refurbishment and has spoken at conferences in Las Vegas, Hong Kong and UAE on 3D scanning, Scan2BIM and 3D visualisation. In 2009, he set up Severn’s scan to BIM capability and aided in preparing one of the first surveys for BIM execution plans. In 2013, Nick launched Seeable Ltd to facilitate non-technical access to complex 3D and BIM data for safety, training, marketing and stakeholder engagement: interactive 3D, virtual reality and augmented reality on PC, Mac, tablets and web. He is also a judge for the West Midlands region RICS Awards and is a guest visiting lecturer on reality capture and visualisation.
