Let's begin by distinguishing two key terms, training and development. Imagine training as intensive focused classes where you learn specific skills and knowledge you need for your job right now. It is systematic, structured, and has a clear, immediate purpose: enhancing performance in your current role. On the other side, we have development, which is more like your ongoing education. It is broader, preparing you for future roles and fostering your personal growth. Think of it as an investment in your future self, building capabilities that you'll need down the line. In a nutshell, while training zeroes in on the now, addressing our immediate performance and skills, development nurtures our future potential. Both are crucial for forming the most valuable asset in most businesses, human capital. To give you an idea of the dimensions training and development have in large multinational corporations, the BMW Group invested €416 million in training and further education in the financial year 2022.
