Michael Hengartner is the Ernst Hadorn Professor of Molecular Biology at the Institute of Molecular Biology, University of Zurich in Switzerland. The Hengartner lab uses the nematode C. elegans as a model organism to understand basic biological processes. His current work focuses on the molecular pathways that control apoptosis during development and in response to genotoxic stress and on the removal of apoptotic cells by their neighbours.
