Biography

Professor Sergio Caroli graduated in Chemistry in 1968 from “La Sapienza” University, Rome. Since then he was a member of the permanent staff of the National Health Institute (Istituto Superiore di Sanità, ISS). He was appointed Research Director in 1983 and retired in 2010. He was the Delegate for Italy... read moreat the Working Group for Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD); member of the National Board for GLP of the Health Ministry; member of the Scientific Committee of the ISS; National Correspondent of the International Register of Potentially Toxic Substances (IRPTC) of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP); member of the National Board for Research in Antarctica; member of the Research Project on Depleted Uranium of the Defence Ministry; member of the Steering Committee of the Analytical Chemistry Division of the Italian Chemical Society; member of the Editorial Board of several national and international scientific journals. He participated in more than 260 scientific conferences, training courses and workshops of which he was often the promoter and the organizer. He authored about 400 scientific papers and is the editor of seven books.
